After fleeing the Communist take-over of South Vietnam, many Vietnamese people immigrated to the United States to begin new lives. Those immigrants worked hard to reach financial stability. However, many of the first-generation Vietnamese Americans did not encounter the same hardships as their parents. Finding a job, establishing economic stability, building a home, and integrating into society are some of the many hardships experienced by the first Vietnamese immigrants. With the hard work of those Vietnamese immigrants, their American-born children can reap the rewards of a higher education and financial support. The VIA-1 Spring Conference consists of talks, presentations, and workshops with the Vietnamese American Midwestern community.
