UVSA Midwest Leadership Retreat 2010

Leadership Retreat

The UVSA Midwest staff cordially invite you to attend the 3rd annual Leadership Retreat to be held at Northwestern University on January 16, 2010. The retreat brings together leaders from Vietnamese student groups across the Midwest to discuss issues that affect us all. This year’s topics include:

  • Fundraising through online and offline methods.
  • Event planning.
  • Membership retention.
  • Conflict resolution.

With this retreat, we hope to help you grow as a leader and help to improve your VSA. Additionally, this is a great networking opportunity, especially since this is a more intimate and informal level. Meet other leaders of VSAs from different schools, share your thoughts and ideas, and build both professional and personal relationships.

The retreat is from the 15-17th of January with most activities happening on Saturday the 16th. We expect attendees to arrive Friday evening and leave sometime Sunday morning. Please contact us at staff@uvsamidwest.org if you need a place to stay that weekend.

Registration fee:

$15 if registered by 11:59 PM on January 8, 2010.

$25 afterward.

The 6th Annual VIA-1 Conference

Mark your calenders for April 11-13, 2008! This year, The 6th Annual VIA-1 Conference will take place at the University of Notre Dame! Check www.via1.org for details!

Excerpt from http://www.via1.org

After fleeing the Communist take-over of South Vietnam, many Vietnamese people immigrated to the United States to begin new lives. Those immigrants worked hard to reach financial stability. However, many of the first-generation Vietnamese Americans did not encounter the same hardships as their parents. Finding a job, establishing economic stability, building a home, and integrating into society are some of the many hardships experienced by the first Vietnamese immigrants. With the hard work of those Vietnamese immigrants, their American-born children can reap the rewards of a higher education and financial support. Consequently, those children do not face the same hardships as their parents, but can instead achieve greater aspirations such as philanthropy, passion, love, fame, and personal achievement. The VIA-1 Spring Conference consists of talks, presentations, and workshops with the Vietnamese American Midwestern community.
