Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring?
- tents (check with your group)
- sleeping bag/air mattress
- blankets/pillow
- gym shoes
- toiletries
- enough clothes for the weekend (tends to be hot during the day, cold at night)
- sunglasses/hat
- sunblock
- bug spray
- flash light/lantern
- swimming suit (if you want to go swimming or tanning)
Will I be able to shower?
Yes, there are shower facilities and restrooms within the state park, but at a fair distance from our campsite. Refer to the map for more information. We will be located at the Youth Group Camping Area, at the bottom of the map.
I’m not good at sports; do I still have to play?
The volleyball and football tournaments are just for some friendly competition. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is; what’s important is you participate. Try your best, and have fun!
When does the camping trip actually start? Can I come whenever I want?
The camping trip starts promptly at 12:00pm on Friday. This is to ensure that we have enough time for all of the activities, for everyone to have a chance to get to know each other, and to make sure you get your money’s worth. No, it is important to arrive on time as we have set times for specific events and without your presence, the camp will not be the same! If you have any extenuating circumstances and definitely cannot arrive on time, please contact the staff.
Will there be electrical outlets available?
As we wanted you to have as much of a true camping trip as possible, we will be at a primitive campsite, which means minimum modern amenities. Although outlets can be found at a distance, it is not suggested to rely on this. In the past, most cell phones had very low or no signal so there wasn’t a great need for outlets. However, if you feel you need an electrical outlet for whatever reason, it is suggested you bring a charger with a car outlet.
What kind of food will there be?
There will be breakfast Saturday and Sunday, lunch Friday and Saturday, and dinner on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast will most likely consist of eggs, sausage, bread, breakfast bars, apples, bananas, orange juice, water, etc. Lunch will most likely consist of hot dogs, pizza, chips, bbq chicken, salad, french bread, pop, water, etc. Dinner will most likely consist of grilled pork chop, steamed rice, grilled shrimp, veggies, beef, chicken, etc. + cooking contest. There will also be snacks to munch on!
I want to go, but I don’t know anyone else who is going. What should I do?
You should definitely go because the whole point is the meet new people and have fun! If you are worried about transportation or uncomfortable in general, please contact the staff and we can help you out.
I’m on a pretty tight budget; is this gonna be worth my money?
Of course this camping trip will be worth your money! Not only do you get 6 meals during the weekend, but you also a get a t-shirt! Also, you’ll be helping out with the campsite and activities fees. This experience will be one of the most memorable times of your life. You’ll get to meet some amazing new people and also spend more time with your friends. There will be so much stuff to do that the weekend will fly by!
What do I wear?
Typically, it’s hot during the day and pretty cold after the sun goes down. It is suggested to wear shorts and a t-shirt/tank top during the day and wear sweatpants and a hoodie at night. Remember that you will be participating in physical activities, so don’t forget to bring your tennis shoes and whatever else you might need. Also, there are showers, so be sure to bring enough change of clothes for the weekend.
