15th Annual Leadership Summit (LS)

Thank you all for making this year's 15th Annual Leadership Summit (LS) a resounding success! At the event by VSA of Louisville in Louisville, KY last weekend, we hope everyone was able to "Flutter Your Wings", and leave a leadership legacy in your own communities 🦋🦋🦋

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed partners, sponsors, and our tireless committees whose dedication has made this summit possible. May the connections and knowledge gained from this event support you in your future endeavors!

Rocket League Recap

Our Cabinet's Community Engagement and Collective Philanthropy Project (CPP) committees recently organized an exciting Rocket League tournament, featuring five competitive teams. These teams went head-to-head, with the top two contenders vying for a $60 prize.

In the grand final, Team Jarhawks went up against Team 777 in a best-of-three series. Team Jarhawks got off to a blazing start in Game 1 and maintained their momentum in Game 2, ultimately taking home the $60 prize. A big congratulations to team Jarhawks!

We also want to extend our congratulations to Team 777, who secured the second-place prize of $15. Special shout-out to all the participating teams, including Jarhawks, Kelley School of Business, 777, Pogues, and Nước Mami. We also want to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed behind the scenes to make this event a success.

We're looking forward to your participation in our upcoming Valorant tournament! See you there 😎

Mid-Autumn
Across the Midwest

Over the past month, several Vietnamese Student Associations (VSAs) from our member schools came together to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival/ Tet Trung Thu with enthusiasm and unity, showcasing their unique cultural celebrations while promoting cultural exchange within their community.

Click HERE to see the full post.

  • DePauw, Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and Purdue VSAs jointly organized the Vietnamese Student Associations of Indiana (VSAIN)'s annual Mid-Autumn Festival. Lanterns, laughter, and a sprinkle of moonlit madness – because every moment is brighter when shared with friends under the harvest moon. 🌕✨

  • Wichita State University (WSU) VSA collaborated with the local lion dance team, All Saints Lion Dance Team (@allsaintsldt), for an entertaining and interactive performance.

  • Michigan State University (MSU) VSA partnered with the Chinese-American Student Coalition (CSC) to host their Mid-Autumn Festival celebration that included food, lantern-making activities, and educational sessions about the significance of the festival. This event marked one of their largest events of the year!

  • Mizzou VSA celebrated their annual Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes and boba tea, thanks to Bubblecup Tea Zone.  They kicked off the event by partner activities to get to know one another better by decorating lanterns. Students were also able to immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture for a night and experience Rước Đèn, a traditional lantern parade, and learn more about the history of Tết Trung Thu.

  • VSANE, in collaboration with local businesses, organizations, and Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus, hosted a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, featuring a mooncake tasting station, ice cream from local business, and a fishing game with small, fun prizes.

KCON

Wichita State (WSU) VSA and University of Kansas (KU) VSA co-hosted their very first KCON event at Wichita State University alongside University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) VSA and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) VSA. With an afternoon full of scavenger hunt games, six families (Orange Cats, Blue Dragons, White Rabbits, Black Rats, Red Snakes, and Pink Pigs) competed in various challenges and bonded through the thrilling experiences together.

Please join us in welcoming two new member schools to the UVSA-Midwest family: Denison VSA located in Ohio and WashU VSA located in Missouri! To read more about their VSA and learn more about them, please swipe to the next few slides for their biography.

"It was a summer I would never, ever forget.
It was the summer everything began.
It was the summer I turned pretty."
~ Jenny Han (The Summer I Turned Pretty)

As the sun-kissed tapestry of summer slowly unfurls its final chapter, nature's resplendent palette begins its graceful transition, yielding to the enchanting embrace of autumn....oops, was that too poetic? Maybe we were a bit too into romance drama and novels this summer 😗

But this is a friendly reminder to finish those series on your to-watch list now, as summer is ending soon! While you prepare for the upcoming school year and various adventures, we would like to present you with our ✿ UVSA-Midwest August Newsletter ✿ to keep you updated on the latest news from our community ~✮

We hope that our newsletters will be helpful for you to be more engaged with our community events and programs!  With that, UVSA-Midwest would like to wish you all the best for the upcoming school year, and lots of luck for your future endeavors 🤩

UNAVSA-18

This past month, over 30 Midwest members attended the annual UNAVSA-18 conference, which was hosted this year in Houston, Texas!

UNAVSA-18 is an annual conference that is hosted by the Union of North American Vietnamese Student Association, which is a fellow partner that we work with as UVSA-Midwest.

The Midwest Region had a blast coming out to Houston! We were able to come home with receiving 2nd place in the most CPP contribution ($32k) towards our past beneficiary: One Body Village. Our presence was found in numerous avenues: as staff, alumni, workshop presenters, family leaders, and even scholars! We left with some many memories and a new inner flame to continue, and we hope to bring more Midwesterners out to the next conference which will be based in New York City🔥

14th Annual Summer Extravaganza

In the mist of midsummer, many students came together to go camping and create new connections. One of their favorite parts included, “seeing how well people got along and bonded, whether it was catching up with old friends or the start of new friendships when meeting someone for the first time.” For others it was their first time coming. An attendee said, “It felt like a great introduction to UVSA for me, which is cool since I believe it encourages me to become more involved in the future and meet the VSA community outside of my school.”

The 14th Annual Summer Extravaganza (SE) Recap Video is now available on YouTube. All camp photos are now available on Facebook as well!

Watch the highlights, feel the connections, and join us in celebrating the unforgettable moments of camp. Let the memories warm your heart as we journey back through the elements that made this summer truly extraordinary. ☀️🌨️

Make sure to be subscribed to our YouTube channel to get notified of the release and other UVSA-Midwest content! ⭐
